Caviar Black Main Drive

Today my main WD Caviar Black 1TB drive decided to report itself as a 32 GB partition only. It has somehow created this empty partition in front of what was approx a 927 C :> drive partition now making access to my OS and data impossible. I have looked at the partition with Acronis 2010 and it clearly shows two partitions so I presume my data is still there and I am currently trying to backup the data even though I cannot see it. This is really serious WD and needs to be sorted out urgently. You just cannot expect end users to deal with this sort of stuff up randomly happening

and placing data at risk - its really very bad. There must be a way to remove that 32Gb partition without damaging the partition behind it but I cannot find any software that sees past this 32gb partition - only Acronis True Image 2010 sees it. If there is a tool out there that will put my drive back as it was I would appreciate any advice.

I am not happy at present.

can you clone the drive with acronis true image ?

if it can see it, it might can copy/clone it

there are various data recovery software, you could try something like hiren bootcd

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

could you tell me more detail about your drive (ie. WD1001FALS-00E3A0) ?

You might need to use a Data Recovery Software. I have used the one available at the following link.

Data Recovery

Could we see the partition table and boot sector with Microsoft’s Sector Inspector?

Extract the above archive to the one folder and execute the SIrun.bat file. The procedure will generate a report file named SIout.txt.
