Today I went to the local Walmart in Illinois and bought a WD Blue 3D Nand 1tb SSD. I got home and went to install it and inside the box was just an empty case, nothing inside of it. I went back to Walmart and did the exchange and opened it right there at the counter and again, nothing but an empty case. The clerk and I opened all 8 1tb models they had in the store and they were ALL empty. There was no evidence of tampering so the only logical conclusion is a manufacturing error.
If you are buying one of these drives I suggest you open it in the store and make sure it’s not just an empty case.
