Is it possible for the external hard drive to work after the plastic casing has been opened? If it is, where can I get a new cable because I think that ours has gone bad. when you plug the hard drive in now, it lights up and spins, but does not register with the computer. Please help.
This would depend on the model, as encrypted drives will not operate outside the original casing. Western Digital USB drives use industry-standard Micro USB 2.0 and 3.0 cable revisions available at local and online computer outlets and retailers.
