Can't unzip WDFirmwareUpdater.exe

I’ve just bought My Book Essential 2TB and followed instructions to turn-off anti-virus & spyware before downloading Drive Firmware. I have WinZip Pro and keep getting the following message

The application has encountered an unexpected error and is now exiting.

Why is firmware so difficult? Smartware unzipped just fine. I’m frustrated as I cannot use My Book until this is resolved

Personally if the drive is working OK I don’t update the firmware. Also make sure you have SP3 and all updates for Windows installed. You also need Netframework 3.5 (available at MS Download Center) and Adobe Flash are up to date.

Thanks for the tips - I once managed to get through as far as “unplug USB devices” fine except my mouse is wireless and works via a USB so unplugging it meant I couldn’t continue.

Today I can’t even get that far!
