Can't surf net while streaming Pandora on WDTVLive

If I am streaming pandora on the WDTVLive, I cannot surf the net on any pc or laptop. The WDLiveTV is connected via ethernet cable to router. 2 PC’s and 2 Laptops connect via wireless. If i am streaming pandora, the browseing capabilities creeps almost to a stop. If i go and stop the stream or turn the WDTV live box off, i return to normal speeds. I am running a 10M internet conection via cable modem to router. In the past with other media servers this was never a problem, even with the same router and network setup. Any setting i can do to reduce this network usage? Could the router be placing priority to the LAN connection versus the WAN connections?

Your  router may be set to prioritise streaming media.

I went to my routers configuration and saw that there was no QoS options only WMM (wireless multimedia management). Enabling WMM didn’t work. What I have decided is to use my Asus WL-520gu with dd-wrt as my router with QoS and WMM options, currently I am using the router as a wirelss repeater. My current router is the netgear WGR614 which has less features and is advertised as being for internet and instant messaging. Maybe by using the asus router it will clear this up.

current router: http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WirelessGRouters/WGR614.aspx

router to be used: http://usa.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=cOWUB0XOSysr4sBM

Using the Asus router worked like a charm, I just changed it back to be used a router and replaced the netgear. Without any QoS or WMM changes it worked fine.

now i am streaming dvd iso’s from a win 7 network shares on a wireless pc (.11g) while surfing the net with this asus router. went out and bought a 15 dollar usb wireless network adapter to replace the asus router that i was using as a wirelss repeater. everything works great using the asus router instead of  the netgear router!!!

Good to know everything is now OK.
