I have two WDTV Live units on the latest firmware. I restarted both, as well as my laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit). When I try to “Play To” either device, it just spins and times out (just like this post).
Any idea?

Did you tried the options provided on that post? Does it work?
Check the network settings and make sure that your router is not blocking the streaming.
Of course I have tried them.
That is why I am creating another thread.
Network settings are OK. Remote control is enabled for streaming devices per Microsoft’s guide.
This is the screen from “Play To” in Windows Media Player.
After this “Contacting…” for a minute or so, it goes to “failed to retrieve media information from media server”
UPDATE:
I tried streaming from another Windows 7 desktop PC and it works fine. It is just my laptop that will not stream it. What gives?
OK, I tried playing a file off the local laptop via right click → play to →
and it works. However, if I try to play a file from a mapped drive, I get “failed to initialize playlist.”
