Can't retrieve backup with SmartWare on new laptop

I have just bought a new Dell laptop to replace an older one that suddenly stopped working.

When trying to retrieve my backup data from My Book using SmartWare I couldn’t. Either the retrieving process stopped after a few files were retrieved, or SmartWare just wouldn’t boot up, or after selecting files to retrieve the software just froze. All sorts of shenanigans.

I desperately need to retrieve all these data - more than 10 years worth of work. My older laptop broke down so I can’t even access the data on my internal hard drive.

Any help would be much appreciated now that WD no longer support these products.
