Can't remove a computer from Mionet

Hi,

I know this has been discussed on a previous post ( http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-World-Edition/Remove-computer-from-MioNet/td-p/29562) but I’d like to add this:

This simply does not work. Mionet doesn’t let you remove a connected computer, and doesn’t offer the option to remove a computer if not connected.

Result: you have to be connected on another computer to remove the first one, and that second computer therefore cannot be removed. Chicken/egg problem.

Consequence: you have at least one offline computer association leftover in Mionet Web Client that you can’t get rid of.

Very annoying and frustrating. Makes you regret that you installed the Mionet client in the first place, and removes any desire of buying it if you obviously don’t have full control over it.

Ultimately, there’s also no reason why the Mionet Web Client doesn’t offer the option to remove a computer.

I hope somebody from Western Digital will read this post and help.

Thank you.

It will be better if you contact WD about this and give then this information. This way you can be sure that WD is informed of this situation.

Hi[Deleted],

Thanks for the answer.

I must say however that I disagree with your statement, for the following reasons:

  1. I didn’t have to install the Mionet client on my computer for Mionet to function. I could access my shares through the Mionet Web Client and through WD Photos. I actually installed the client by curiosity and don’t need it (see my previous posts for details),

  2. Your Mionet user guide advertises that removing the Mionet client will remove the computer that it is installed on from the shares. This is false advertising as far as I know as this is not getting accomplished (see also my previous posts for details),

  3. Here are your Terms of Use and your End User License Agreements: http://www.mionet.com/terms.aspx and http://mionet.senvid.net/get/EULAGrabber.jsp. I didn’t read anything there requiring that at least one computer has to have the Mionet client installed and connected to the account. Maybe you can point me to the place in the texts where you read this?

Any further help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
Regards.

Gilles B

Dear Gilles,

Thank you for your reply.

I truly apologize for the back and forth with these emails. One of MioNet’s requirements is to have at least one computer connected to the account. You must have the Windows computer along with your iPad mobile device.

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.

You cannot do that: if you try, Mionet says that you have to be offline to do it because you’re trying to remove the computer you’re logged in with.
If you go offline, there’s no option to remove computer: you have to be online.
That’s why I mention that it’s chicken/egg problem in my original post: I’d need to be logged in on another computer to remove the first one, and I’ll end up with the second computer impossible to remove.

That’s also why I mentioned that option to remove computer should be available on the Mionet Web Client so you don’t encounter that circular reference issue.

Any other ideas that might help?

Thank you.
Regards.

Dear Gilles,

Thank you for your reply.

Just to be thorough with your issue of removing a computer from MioNet, on the home screen. Please click on File > and Remove Computer. You should see a window with available computers associated with your MioNet account. Choose the computer you want to remove and click OK. It is a good idea to perform this from the iPad you want to keep your MioNet account on for WD Photos.

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.

Hi [Deleted],

Thanks for reaching out.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure if it helps:

  • Article about how to uninstall Mionet: I had read it and also read the user guide, advertising that uninstalling the Mionet client would automatically remove the original computer. I’m afraid I must say that it is not true as I did it and nothing happened. I reinstalled and uninstalled again. Same result,

  • Article about how to deactivate Mionet from My Live Book:

  1. I have a My Book World, not a My Book Live,
  2. I know where the option to stop, restart and reallocate Mionet to another account is on my My World Book configuration utility. I’m afraid to say also that those buttons don’t work: they clearly do nothing. If you look at the page source, you can see that the JavaScript code is missing: there’s no code whatsoever associated to those buttons,
  3. I know in the configuration utility how to prevent Mionet to start when rebooting My Book World. So, I did this, restarted the device and still, the original computer is associated to my Mionet account,
  4. In any case, I’m not interested in deactivating Mionet on my My Book World as I’m using WD Photos on my iPad. I’m interested in removing the original computer associated with the Mionet client trial, that I have no intent to use further and uninstalled.
  • I visited the forum and am not the only one with this issue. I pushed a post in case somebody would know the answer. No success.

  • Searching in Google brings the same issue referenced by other people too, and no solution.

To my taste, there should simply be an option in the Mionet Web Client to remove the computer: right click - remove resource.

Any ideas how you can help me?

Thank you.
Regards.

Dear Gilles,

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is Michael.

I apologize for the inconveneince this issue has caused you. I noticed you already went to our Knowledge Base article how to remove a computer from Mionet. It seems to me that you want to remove the original computer or device and not need a second computer to accomplish this task. There are two other articles below for removing Mionet client, and how to enable or disable Mionet from My Book Live or My Book World.

I’m very glad to announce that this issue is RESOLVED!

I hope this will help people with the same issue to get it fixed.

Kudos to the support: it’s been a bumpy road but they didn’t let me down and the help of a Senior CSA made it happen.

Here’s the solution:

Dear Mr. B,

Thank you for your reply. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I have spoken to our technical trainer and the following procedure should resolve your issue:

  1. Have Mionet client installed on both computer A and computer B.
  2. Log into MioNet using computer A when computer B has not logged into MioNet
  3. Use computer A to remove computer B from MioNet
  4. Log off MioNet using computer A
  5. Log into MioNet on computer B
  6. Use computer B to remove computer A from MioNet
  7. Uninstall MioNet from both computers

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.

Hi [Deleted] (or [Deleted]?),

Thanks for reaching out.
I got your message indeed.

Could you give me an agenda for this meeting? I’d like to get prepared and understand what we’ll accomplish.
Also, do I need to be connected to MyBookWorld when calling you? Because it might be challenging for me to do it during work hours.

Thanks for those clarifications.
Regards.
