Cant Play

I bought wdtv live three days ago and it came with the last firmware (01.02.21). There was no movie file it couldnt play so far. But today i tried to play this movie and it didnt open, just the blackscreen.

I hope someone will answer. I will give you this movies media info.  If theres no solution, how can we tell this to WD to put this codec on the next firmware. How often WD publishes new firmwares?

Sorry for my poor english…its not my first lang.

Thanks in advance

Here’s The Media Info

Welcome to the forums.

This is a well known issue – the problem is this file was made with a “bad” version of MKVMerge (anything past 4.0).  The newest beta of the Live and Plus units will handle this, but in the meantime you can fix it yourself by downloading an older version of MKVMerge (anything 4.0 or earlier) and remuxing it.  Or you can use a newer version and remux it with the header compression for video and audio tracks turned off.

I wasnt waiting an answer that fast  thank yo for that

i tried this mkvmerge thing. i downloaded mkvmerge 4.3.0 and opened the movie with it and push the button “start muxing” and i tried to open the new video with my wdtv live but it didnt work ( i think i couldnt do it right way)  I will try a earlier version of 4.0, hope it works.

And why is wd waiting for ?  Their last firmware update was on march. That is a really long break. I hope they will publish the new firmware soon.

one more question

When i  opened the movie with an earlier version of mkvmerge, do i have to something else than just pushing the “start muxing” button ?

You don’t read the responses entirely.  :)

If you used MKVMerge 4.3.0, you have to go to each track, select the track specific options, and set COMPRESSION to NONE.

There have been 3 Beta software releases since march.   They’ve been chasing a very tedious HDMI issue since 1.03.x was released and haven’t gotten it right yet.

I did this compression optionos but it didnt work :frowning:

I think theres no way else than waiting for the new firmware

If you did it right it will work – if it doesn’t work the new firmware won’t fix it (because it’s not an issue with the header compression).

Try downloading MKVMerge 4.0 or earlier and remuxing it – that’s ■■■■■ proof.

You probably also have to reset your unit to make it play anything at all.

Cocovanna

I couldnt find the version 4.0.0 or erlier

Heres waht i did

i opened the video file with mkvmerge

and chose the compression none  including the video and subtitle and audios

and muxed it

restart my wdtv live and nothing

no one knows what couses this?

ops! But the second remuxing was from the first remuxing that i didnt choose the compression optinos.

could that couse this?

Post the output of MKVInfo for one of the files (you can get that at the same place you got MKVMerge.)

Here’s a link to an old version:

I think i have my answer. Some guy solve this problem.

Here’s the link for the ones who is having the same problem

mkv header compression easy fixes using batch files

Its the same thing we’ve been telling you, but the guy just has a batch script to fix it.  But – in any case, yes, the answer is to remux and take out the header compression (which we gave you the info to do).
