Cant hit WDTV box via telnet or local IP

It was my understanding that if you hit the ip of the WDTV it had a remote you could use, or you could telnet into it. Is this correct? I just get a 404 error when hitting the ip and telnet just gives invalid ip, although it is the correct one.

NONE of the WDTV’s have Telnet.  

Only the newer WDTV Live Hub and Live SMP have a web interface.
