I recently got a personal MyCloud device. It works fine but I’d like to back it up so i tried to set up a safepoint on an external USB drive connected right to the MyCloud device.
The USB drive is found but when I am on the “select a drive” page and select the only option present (which is as it should be), I get a quick “Retrieving Partitions” message which disappears but do not get a “Next” button. My only choices are “Back” and “Cancel”. How do I get past this step of the process?
Disregard. I reformatted my usb drive and it seems to be working now.
The external drive was probably initially formatted for FAT32 which is why you had problems. An external USB drive formatted for FAT32 is not supported by the WD My Cloud SafePoint program. Reformatting the external USB drive for NTFS, HFS+J, EXT2, EXT3, or EXT4 solves the problem as those formats are supported. See the WD Support document for more information: Safepoint creation fails when the target is a USB drive connected to the My Cloud or My Book Live Duo drive
i also have this problem. my drive is partitioned as NTFS i reformatted it again to be sure but still dont get any response when it goes to search for partitions.
Make sure there is one single partition on the hard drive. Some of us have run into problems with the single bay My Cloud not properly accessing a USB hard drive that has two or more partitions on it. Also make sure to format it for NTFS using Windows to avoid any issues.
thanks for ideas. checked them both and basically did a complete rebuild of the disk, new partition new format NTFS… still not working. its a big usb disk 4Tb
mycloud sends a warning though as an email
Event description:A share could not be created on a USB device (vendor: Seagate, model: Fast HDD, serial number: NA7F0AHH, file system: ntfs, label: marshcloud backup, share name: marshcloud_backup).
nope used a usb hub tied the drive to that but exact same results grrrrrr. Thanks for the ideas but still no luck

What is the model name of the USB drive? Is it a drive that supports hardware encryption? Does the drive have some sort of software that one installs to their PC to manage the features of the drive?
it was powered, i
no software just a single partition with NTFS file structure… There may have been software that came with it for backingup etc but I deleted it. I have other drives of this type that run fine tied to my computer this one works fine connected to my computer as well its a a seagate backup plus 4 Tb model srd00f1
