Can't connect my cloud directly to iMac via Ethernet

HI, I’m trying to connect my drive to my iMac with an ethernet cable, it works at home via a router but not in my hotel room. Do I need to use a crossover cable? I have the steady and flashing lights on the LAN port, blue light on front, the mac is generating a DHCP address 169.254.159.214 but it will not mount or show in Finder. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Did you previously configure the My Cloud for a Static IP address?

Does the My Cloud show a blue LED on the front?

One suggestion is to perform a 4 second reset which will reset the administrator password and reset the DHCP setting back to auto.

Generally most newer network devices typically don’t require a cross over cable because the network port will sense the cable and reconfigure itself if it needs to cross over the connection.
