Can't Access UI

Hello,

Occasionally I am unable to access the MyCloud UI. I have to ‘reboot’ the device to gain access again. It seems that this happens at random times, and I can only regain access after a reboot. My browser would just say that the web page is not recognised.

Does anyone know why this happens? My network connection is great as always, so I would not think that is the issue.

Thanks!
Shelim

A very frequent problem (take a look down the list of threads on the forum), and almost always due to the IP address being reassigned by your router.

My recommendataion: go to your router control interface, note the IP address it has assigned for your MC, then set it to be fixed, or static.  Then use this IP address to connect to the MyCloud.

cpt_paranoia, you don’t want to set the router assigned IP as a static in the mycloud as the router is then free to reassign this address to somthing else. On 2nd read I am not sure with you are saying make the change in the router which is ok or the mycloud which can cause issues

either identifiy the DHCP pool range and choose an IP outside of this range or leave the mycloud on DHCP and lock the assignment in the router. I do the 1st methode, it appears many people here do the 2nd which is probably easier but I have been doing this to long to change

Yes, I mean set the address as fixed at the router (‘Always use this address’)  I leave the address as DHCP on the MyCloud, since it’s fixed at the router.  Works for me.

You can also access the device ui via hostname as url, by default:

http://wdmycloud/

make sure you have the forward slash at the end

Doesn’t work on my iPad2, Android 4.2.2 tablets or Android 4.4.2 media box.  Or Firefox on my XP PC.  They all return 'not available.

A recent thread suggested it may be to do with my ISP’s DNS resolution.  I can’t be bothered sorting that, since the fixed IP works, and it’s easy enough to create a favourite.

Maybe you can explain why it doesn’t work…

Android does not support WINS or DNS suffixes.  On your apple devices, you can access by adding .local to the end of the hostname. For example:   http://wdmycloud.local

As for your XP PC, I cant tell you why since everyones PC is different, but check NetBIOS and DNS config on your network adapter is a good place to start.  I have an XP PC with Firefox and I can access the drive via hostname

Funnily enough, I was trying this today.  And I tried the .local bit on the iPad.  No joy…

As I said, I’m not bothered, and it’s only idle curiosity…

ps. This was the thread I was thinking of:

We both posted on it…

If they’re really essential, you’d better tell that to whoever wrote the Quick Installation Guide; the July 2013 issue that came with my MC is missing trailing slashes for those addresses…

I haven’t had a problem regarding this matter in a while. I’m hoping it’s fine now.
I spoke to Customer Support when I did have the issue, and I am certain they asked me to do exactly that, but it didn’t work. I was able to pretty much access everything besides the Dashboard, and I don’t think I was able to map the drive either. Furthermore, it was  discoverable by my Mobile devices, however I could not gain access to it.
