Cannot "properly" disconnect my WD Hard Drive

Can someone tell me…

When I try to “eject” my WD Hard Drive, it always says it’s in use. How can I disconnect it without affecting it or possibly causing issues?

The best way to do that is to:

a. Close down all windows explorer screens and any opening programs.

b. Left click on the USB icon on the lower right hand corner, next to the clock.

    That should bring up the eject option, select the WD external drive ID and click on it, it should eject.

c. If that still not work, restart the computer then try step b.
