Cannot play M4A Files

My Cloud Home won’t play M4A files through Sonos yet Sonos will play those exact same files if stored in a different location. What is the fix to allow My Cloud Home to play those files? Seems like this is a somewhat common problem but I haven’t seen the fix.

Hi,

You could refer to the following link: My Cloud Home: 3rd Party App Sonos Usage

Thanks @Jonty.S - would you mind referencing the specific fix outlined in the article? I’ve read it previously but don’t see where the fix is outlined for M4A files, it’s more of a general HowTo.

This was the exact same issue, apparently resolved a year ago - Sonos Unable to Play M4A File Stored on My Cloud Home - #7 by Ang293

How did you sort this?

Unfortunately none of the original or subsequent posters ever bothered to post their operating environment with either their SONOS OS or Windows or other OS versions. In most cases this error as described has nothing to do with playing M4A files from the My Cloud Home and in recent Windows versions, the error may be associated with a Windows 11 update on or about April 2024.

On players that use their own codecs (VLC, iTunes, JetAudio HD, etc.) there is no problem. When converting m4a to mp3, there are no problems.

Hi all, confirming that the issue has been fixed with a Windows 11 update by Microsoft.
Please make sure to install the update March 26, 2024—KB5035942 (OS Builds 22621.3374 and 22631.3374) or higher to solve the issue.
