I am attempting to backup but having trouble doing so. I purchased a 5TB usb 3.0 drive and plugged it into the back of my PR2100 and tried pressing the copy button without anything taking place.
When I log into the admin panel I do not see a Backups option on my PR2100. I have my USB device (see above). I also enabled cloud access - although I don’t think that’s the cause. I would rather not take anymore time considering one of my drives is reported as SMART failure predicted on drive 2.
This is what I expect the Admin dashboard to look like
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting: https://support-en.wd.com/app/ask
It would be SO MUCH BETTER if “WDStaff” addressed the actual questions on the forum; so that everyone can be educated. . .rather than a blind “Ask tech support” (which then often fails to answer the query)
So - - - since I am not a bot. . . I will take a stab at this.
I believe you are running OS5 on your PR2100; and the screenshot of the manual reflects older OS3 software.
There USED to be a backup function built into OS3 WD software. . . now the backup functionality is an “app” - - → called “USB backup” or some such. Once you setup that “job”; the software will backthings up to the USB drive.
What does “pressing the copy button” mean? If this is a button to trigger some windows or mac backup software on the HDD; that would not work (because the NAS is using Linux EXT4 formatted drives)
You can always backup using good ol’ Windows “Drag and Drop”. This will do an effective copy of the contents from one device to the other. WORD OF CAUTION: with “drag and drop” you are using the PC to copy the files. You REALLY need the PC wired into the network and not running on a wifi connection. (the speed will be HORRIBLE).
You screen shot shows the PR2100 to be indexing. STOP INDEXING RIGHT NOW.
Basically, indexing churns through the drive generating thumbnail previews for the WD Apps.
Indexing will wear out your one remaining good drive faster. . .(and may have compromised the failing drive).
Indexing can be stopped by turning off cloud access.
