Can use USB1 or USB2 but not at same time

I have had the WD Live HD box for a long time, but only have had one USB drive attached (to USB2).  It works just fine.  Now I have a second drive.  When I attached them BOTH, only the drive on USB1 is recognized.  If I only use one drive, I can use EITHER USB port.

Any thoughts?  Thanks for considering.

Are these USB-powered drives?   It might be that the WD can’t provide enough power to power both.

What make & model are these drives?
