Can SmartWare erase my other drives?

My MacBook Pro (10.12.4) ran out of HDD/memory last night. When I restarted this morning, an external USB3 Seagate HDD has been renamed (repartitioned) “MyBook”, and it’s empty (all of my files are missing). I can find no way that the Seagate drive would be renamed to the name of a western digital drive, other than by WD SmartWare or WD Drive utilities (both installed on my Mac).

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to fix my drive and restore the previous partition that is now missing?

Hello,

WD Smartware does not have the option to reformat a hard drive and as far as I know WD Drive Utilities allows you to reformat a hard drive if you decide to but it does not change the name automatically.
