Can I use my hard drive hooked up to my tv to watch movies?

Yes, I have just tested it yesterday: My Passport Essential SE USB3.0 1TB with Philips TV and LG Blu-ray player, both devices read the HDD content fine incl. HD movies. In case a drive is secured with SmartWare Drive Lock, of course the feature has to be disabled with PC prior to connecting the drive to non-PC devices.

I have a Mac so the drive is partitioned for a Mac so I wonder if it will work on my Sanyo HD tv.

So I suggest you to post your question in relevant forum category dedicated to External Drives for Mac, as this one is about PC. Nevertheless this question is rather related to TV if it supports GPT/HFX partitions. If not then you may reformat your drive to FAT32, which I believe is still the most common.

Ooops Sorry I didn’t look very hard to see if I was posting in the right area.  Thanks for your help though all the same. Drive was formatted to FAT32 before. I will head over to the MAc section.
