Can I use a password and still access on both PC and MAC?

I’m using a “My Passport Essential” WD hard drive.

I’d like to freely copy files to and from my PC and Mac computers while still having password protection (to access the external hard drive).  is this possible?

As far as I know, the unlocker will run on both when you connect the drive.

You need to be careful about formats, though…

If you format the drive FAT32, then you can use it on both, but there are several limitations and issues.

If you format the drive as NTFS (or leave it the way it ships), then you’d have to download the free NTFS-3G driver for your Mac, or else the Mac will only see the drive as read-only – you wouldn’t be able to write to it.

If you format the drive for Mac, then the opposite happens – you need a driver for the PC or else it can’t see it… as far as I know, almost all the PC drivers are paid products.

The best choice is usually to leave it as NTFS and put NTFS-3G on your Mac.

Allow me to share a link where you will be able to download the software that RoofingGuy says NTFS 3G
