Can i take the drive out of a passport 1 tb and put it in a generic enclosure?

My niece dropped her drive recently, and every place in town will take 2 weeks to recover the drive…Can I possibly just buy an enclosure and take the drive out of the WD housing and put it in there? I’ve built external drives like that in the past, but not sure if that can be done in this case. Trying to keep her from losing a semester’s worth of work right here at the end…

Hi ddooley,

It is not recommended to take out the internal drive from the enclosure as it will void the warranty of the drive if it is under warranty.
