I’m planning to upgrade my laptop from a 340GB drive to this 1TB drive. It looks like WD provide Acronis Software to clone it. But can I install Acronis to the 340GB drive and clone it to the WD10JPVX 1TB drive connected via a USB adapter (which I have)? Or do I need to create a Bootable CDRom/DVDRom with Acronis on it, place the WD10JPVX into the laptop, boot the laptop using the bootable Disc with the source drive plugged into the USB adapter?
The host (Original) drive should remain in your system while the new drive is used with a USB adapter.
