Buy a gigabit pci card for old PC?

My desktop PC is an old pentim 4 e-machine. At least 5 years old. When I hooked MBL directly upto PC I was only getting 3 MB transfer speed too MBL from PC. Speed from MBL to PC was 3 times faster at 10 MB/second. Anyone know why speeds are so diffrent between moving too VS. moving from MBL?Can I buy a gigabit pci ethernet card to put in my PC and then hook MBL directly into PC and get gig speeds to and from MBL-PC? At least 50 MB/second? Here is cheapest gigabit card I saw on amazon for $7. Should I buy?

I forgot to mention that when I hooked up my MBL up directly into a newer laptop I have, I was getting 50 MB/second  speed so that is why I presume my desktop is 100 speed only and that is why I hope to achieve similar 50 MB speed with desktop with gigabit card. Yes?

Buying a Gigabit Ethernet card will help. The link you provided was to a 10/100 card though. be carefull… look for 10/100/1000 cards.

Found a couple of 1000 cards linked to below for around $9 each. Either card a good choice? I would like to continue using ethernet out of motherboard for internet and use gigabit pci card as dedicated port for MBL. Anyone know if I can use both ports simultaniously?

You should not.   Using dual interfaces can create all kinds of problems unless you are very sure of what you’re doing.

Just turn off the MoBo’s built-in adapter and use the Gig port for everything.

As to those cards:   I’ve never heard of either of the brands (Tenda and Encore?)  … but they both appear to be based on the RealTek chipset, which is generally decent…

since I’m non connecting mbl to router since my router is slow that would mean I’d have to disconnect my PC from router internet in order to do fast file transfer between MBL and PC which would **bleep**. How about  buying this 2 port NIC card for about twice as much at $22? Would solve my problem?

You’d be better served by buying an out-board Gigabit Ethernet switch and connect everything to it.
