Brand new My Passport unmounted but still blinking

brand new wd My Passport. First time plugging it in and I can’t get the thing to stop blinking so I can unplug it.

  1. i used wd utilites to set the sleep to off.
  2. on windows 10 advanced power options i’ve set the haddrive sleep to 1 minute
  3. I’ve unmounted My Passport.

after all this My Passport STILL continues to blink unceasingly (i’m guessing it’s also not spinning down).

i read that if it’s blinking, it’s not safe to unplug.

how do i get the thing to stop blinking so i can unplug it? please help.
