Let me start by saying I’m about to do an epic video of me throwing my My Cloud Mirror 4TB out the window and go back to drop box where i never had ANY issues.
I’ve had the My Cloud now for about 2 weeks now and other than maybe the first two days I’ve had nothing but problems! I bought the MyCloud Mirror with several intended uses in mind:
1: My wife takes a substantial amount of photos (currently shes still using drop box) and i wanted to have a local option for her to store the photos as well as provide her easy access from her phone (like she does on drop box) but without the annual subscription and 1TB Limit
-
For my business - I wanted to be able to access microsoft office documents while on my home PC, laptop, and my phone.
-
As A SMB Media Server for my local library: We do not have cable but have a fairly extensive library of digital media which i wanted to be able to access from a variety of streaming boxes.
The MyCloud Mirror does not accomplish any of these 3 tasks well but it works OK on item number 3. On 99% of my devices i can set it up as an SMB device and it works great. Other than that I may be able to access the my cloud from my phone (while not on my wifi) one day and then the next day it just magically wont work. On my Windows 10 laptop one day the My Cloud application will work flawlessly and i’m able to use it remotely with no issue - the next day nope magically its gone. I may need to login to Mycloud.com and access it - but oh that only works some of the time as well.
On my desktop i was able to map drives using the WD Discover application (cannot find it by trying to map a network drive the traditional way) Oh but you guessed it… the next day that wont work and the network drives are “disconnected” now when i utilize the WD Discovery tool to go back in and try and remap the network drives MyCloud wont show up when scanning for devices and then magically it will appear out of thin air, but it shows up as a media streaming device and will not allow me to map any drives.
I also occasionally get emails from NAS.Alerts that will say: “Power Loss detected on port 1” - i have the drive on a very large UPS and i know its not losing power. i will also get an email “File System Check Failed” - however when i go into the setup of the drive everything shows just fine when i perform the scans.
Overall i’m just at a loss as to what to do… I have a very strong internet connection (300MBPS Cox) using a Arris SB6190 modem and a netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 router, the My Cloud is also connected to a fairly large UPS and i havent had any power issues with anything else connected to it.
Overall I’m just at a loss as what to do - I have not configured the router any specific way (nor would i probably know how) i just know that everything else i have connected in my house either wireless or wired works flawlessly. I’m at the point where I’m getting very angry with this drive not working and I’m about ready to either throw it out the window and try an external drive hooked to my X6 and see if that works any better - if not i’m just going to go back to drop box.
Anyone else have any suggestions as to what i could try?
