Blue led light off

I noticed the last few days that the blue light is off, despite the drive being on. I tried turning it off and back on in settings a few times, rebooted the drive, nothing. While it reboots, the white ligth blinks as expected, but once it is fully booted there is no light.

Any ideas what’s happening?

If the drive is otherwise working (file and media servers accessible, Dashboard accessible), then I’d suggest the blue led has failed. Mine has, and there are a number of other reports of it failing.

I don’t worry about it…

I don’t worry about it, but isn’t it the same led lamps that produce the different colors? So if the white(ish) light is ok, why is the blue dead?

Because the light is made by a combination of led devices, using additive colour. So if the blue led fails, the other colours still work.

I don’t think it’s an RGB led, but if it were, you’d still have the R and G LEDs. By changing the intensity of these two colours, you can create colours from red to orange, to yellow to green.

There is a file the contains the led status, by I can’t remember where it is. A search of the forum might find it.

The file is in the /tmp directory. They are called led_cur_ev led_cur_st led_err_ev and led_err_st.
There are also three files located at /sys/class/leds/system_led called blink bightness and color.
Blink will contain on or off. Brightness contains a number. Mine was 0. Color will contain the color of the led. Mine is blue right now.
