Blinking Blue Light will not go out; drive undetected

my 6TB Power Book’s blue light has been blinking for days. I moved my Win 11 computer and had to unplug the drive. When I replugged the drive the front panel light was blinking blue and has not stopped. The drive is not being detected by my computer, though it was fine before I moved it. It is plugged in and not on wireless.

Laptop or desktop? If laptop, did you shutdown the laptop BEFORE moving it, or “eject” the drive from within Windows before unolugging the drive?

I think I have the same problem on a desktop. I have a 500 MB and a 1 TB WD MyBook, the 1 TB one is not being recognized by WD utilities & WD Security, I get an access denied / not accessible message when I click on the 1 TB MyBook in the File Explorer. So it is still showing up, but I can suddenly not access it at all. The light on the front is blue on both MyBooks, not blinking. I have searched online for a solution but nothing works.
This afternoon I copied some old files onto the affected drive from old CD’s, and my Windows 11 promted for an update during the process. After the update access was denied.
The WD external drives have been working fine for years on Windows 7, 10 and now for 6 months on Windows 11 Pro, Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100. My current processor is 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-11700 @ 2.50GHz, 2496 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
I really need the info on that drive, I really need advice on how to proceed.
Thank you

it’s a desktop, and it was shut down when i moved it. the drive was unplugged after it was shut down.

it’s been over 6 days and no response. I realize that my product is not being supported anymore, but there is no better way than this to tell your customer: we don’t care about you, purchase from the competition in the future, which is exactly what I will do. You ignored my plea for help/support, Western Digital is removed from my products forever, I will never ever purchase any WD products ever again!

Do whatever you feel is right for you. However, this is NOT WD Support. This is the user community consisting of folks like you and me, not technicians of WD. There are a few mods to assist with forum issues.

If you got a Windows update to 24H2, then double check any firewall, anti-virus settings and read through this article to see if it improves.

Since you’re device is out of warranty, this is all you get. You may try other forums or maybe even pay someone to recover any data. And, perhaps next time, start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else’s.

Thank you for clarifying Saudade, I will keep that in mind

Saudade, since my desktop was shut down before unplugging the drive, do you have any other suggestions of what might be the problem with the blinking blue light?

A blinking blue light may indicate standby, rebuilding, or an issue. Check cables, try another port or PC, and see if it appears in diskmgmt.msc. If silent or clicking, it could be failing. Test with a different power adapter if possible.

thank you, Scarletios, for your reply. i will try all of those things. i’ll let you know how it turns out.
