Best way to transfer data from one WD Red to another?

Hi everyone,

I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn’t find a definitive answer.

I have a WD Red drive sitting in a Synology NAS, which has recently started throwing bad sector errors all over the place, so I’m getting it replaced under warranty.

I therefore need to do a full transfer (just a simple duplication) of all the data from the old drive onto the new one.

Can you advise on the best/simplest/most robust way of doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi nassar ,

The best way is to use the old drive as a secondary storage i.e. connect the drive externally to your computer and meanwhile insert the new WD Red drive into the NAS enclosure, and once it shown in your file explorer, you can simply transfer the data from your old WD Red drive to your NAS device manually (Copy and Paste).
