Best way to expand storage?

Hi, I have an EX4100 in a RAID 1 (2x8TB) I don’t have a great deal of experience working with RAID arrays yet so I wanted to ask here first:

I have two more 8TB drives I want to add to the NAS – is it at all possible to set each one up as its own independent volume apart from the RAID 1 array? My main goal is to increase storage capacity of the NAS, so if I am forced to use RAID, what would be the best RAID configuration to use for this? Am I in danger of corrupting/formatting the existing data in the RAID 1 by changing RAID mode or altering the current setup?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Hi alex.licausi,

You can go with RAID 5 to get maximum storage without any existing data loss. You can have a look on below KBA for further details.
