Best V2 firmware version for MyCLoud 8TB Single

Hi,

  1. From your experience, what is the best firmware version, for the V2 firmware for MyCloud 8TB Single, with the least number of issues for a simple local NAS? (I’m not using remote access, media server, timeshare, etc).

  2. What unwanted services CAN be stopped in Gen2 mycloud with V2 firmware?

BACKGROUND
My MyCloud 8TB single is currently on firmware V2.21.111. I only use it as a home NAS and data recovery backup - all media serving, remote access, auto update, timeshare, etc, are turned off. I notice that it slows down almost to a crawl (kb/s) after an hour or so when copying large number of files with teracopy (presumably indexing?) - I have to reboot the device to get it back up to speed. Internet access here is a bit rickety and from previous experience with another 3TB V2 drive I know that some v2 firmware versions cause access problems when there is no internet (in those cases the device doesn’t seem to retain what time it is. Sorry I forget which V2 firmware version and I ended up turning off NTP on that drive and setting time manually).

I don’t want to go to OS5, and I have older machines on the network, so prefer not to restrict it to smb3 (though the latter is not critical).

That shouldn’t be happening. I’d update it to the latest v2 firmware - it’s not a Netgear (!) and the latest firmware is usually the best.

Other than the initial indexing, I’ve not had any issues with the v5 firmware and remote access appears a little more reliable… And it gives you options for future use. Honestly, I’d update it to v5.
