Backup without a plan

I just bought a WD “My Passport” drive. It is my intention to use it on demand, to connect it to the computer only when I need to perform a backup or recovery.

The WD Backup package seems to require me to set a backup plan. How do I tell it simply to do a one-shot backup?

[Note: it’s a Dell laptop running Windows 10.]

Hi there,

When you do a backup and disconnect it, the backup should continue the next time you connect it to the computer. The software will not prevent you from disconnecting the drive.

Thanks for your reply. I’m sure you’re right about my being able to eject the drive between backups.

But what I don’t understand is, how do I attach the drive at some arbitrary future time and say “Backup now”? And can’t I prevent the software from searching periodically for the drive to do a backup that I don’t want?
