Few days ago I had a problem with a 4Tb purple WD unit, where I keep all my multimedia biblio for CD’s DVD’s and more media files I have, I want to keep them toghether and connected to my TV to access all them as a particular cable TV broadcast for myself. It’s an internal hd unit but connected via USB to a dock station to my laptop.
For security I have two of this units, the main and a exact copy of the first one. Meanwhile the fisrt unit was replicating the second one, I pulled off for error the USB cable that joins dockstation to laptop, so the operation of copying was interrupted.
My surprise was that the read unit (#1) lost its MBR, not the write one (#2). System recognized #1 but as a unallocated unit, all the information had gone!
Knowing that it was only a problem of the MBR, the info was still inside, tryed to rebuild the structure of the MBR with EaseUS partition manager, but after two days working…nothing, disk had died.
Now I’m trying to recover the remaining info, but with a previous format of Unit #1 and copying directly from windows. Defused a copy partition to avoid any possible errors in disk #2.
The qüestion is, knowing that the MBR is so fragile, that never a few buch of bytes where so important, Can be done a backup or a copy of large MBR disks? Could WD do a software for this to recover easily the MBR?
Thanks
