Backup jobs failed (from nas to usb), cause: destination folder is "read only"?

Trying to schedule backups from nas to an usb hard drive, but it fails after the first backup.

Creating a backup jobs works fine when it is done at the first time, but trying to do it again, it fails. When you have created a job and use the “synchronizing” option, it gives you an error message:

“The backup destination folder is read only. Please check and correct the setting.”

I have checked the usb hard drive and i cant find read-only folders. I scanned the folder with Win10 scan tool to find errors, but no errors found.

I dont know what else to do.

In case your external USB drive is formatted in exFAT, please format it in NTFS. exFAT file system in Linux is read-only.

it is in ntfs. i just deleted old backups and made new backups

I have the same issue, on WD EX4100, I have another WD 3TB External HDD connected using USB I have not problem to backup in first run and work few other times too but after a while when I try to run the backup I get the same error I have already been forced to format and create a new backup.

There should be a solution for this without doing a full backup. My drive is not read only and working 100%.

QUESTION:

  1. Are you leaving the USB drive attached and going into the UI and starting the backup job manually?

  2. Are you removing the USB drive and attaching it to re-start the synchronization backup?

  3. Are you “Safely Ejecting” the USB drive BEFORE you remove it from the My Cloud? or just yanking the USB cable?

  1. Yes.
  2. No the only thing I do is a restart of NAS
  3. I have not removed the USB drive since I started the backup
I can access the backup files even create new folder on the USB drive

Strange.
I wonder which directory is RO (Read Only)

Here’s my PR2100 via ssh
Everything is RW
