Backup Failure

I am new to WD My Cloud EX4100. How do I copy / backup (if that is the same thing) files from my hard drive in a failure resistant way? Not sure if there is a Synch mechanism so that if individual file transfers fail, there is a retry mechanism.
I am aware that there is information about this in the manual, however, I don’t find it clear enough.
