Backing up 2 user accounts

I successfully backed up my files from one user account.  When I tried to back up the other user account, my passport would not open.  I enter the passowrd to unlock it and kept getting the message “an error occurred”  any suggestions?

Try connecting the Passport on another USB port, avoid using USB extension cables or USB hubs.
