Back up mybook essential to new MB Live?

Newbie here! I have searched this question but have not seen an answer yet.

I have been using a MyBook Essential 2T with SmartWare as a back up for a while successfully. Now I have run out of disk space on my desktop so I purchased a MyBookLive 3T. I want to use the Essential as a storage drive for pictures, music, videos, etc. and use the new MBLive for back up, but SmartWare doesn’t recognize the essential drive as a storage drive. I have already set up Live for backups and stopped the auto back up on the Essential.

How do I get SmartWare to recognize the essential drive as just a storage drive?

I am also running into a new problem with the essential drive shutting down and needing a reboot every few hours even though I set the timer to “Never”.

AFAIK Smartware will only backup the internal drive on the computer.

Do you have any suggestions on why my essential drive continues to go to sleep even after setting the timer to “never”?
