Correct. The “codec” in use is DV which is not supported by any media player I’m aware of…

Hi Tony,
(I’m signed in as Boossie now, because I couldn’t sign in as Molby anymore)
This avi will play on my Windows Media Player on my laptop, but not on the WD. The file extensoin is AVI. Most AVI files will play on my WD, but not the ones who I’ve imported on the laptop via Windows from the digital camera. Do you know a sollution? Is there any convertor or something?
“AVI” is a “Container” (Inside the Container are the “Codecs”)
Any “Convertors” ? … try Google, heaps out there.
My favourite site for many years for video software is VideoHelp.com (click)
Look for something “Free” and read user reviews.
And to which format should I convert to make sure I can play the movies on the WD?

Answer: (everyone has their own opinion … so my best answer is)
A “supported format” as described in the User Manual .
Yes “Avi” is Supported … but your Camera’s creating a Format Profile: “Open DML ” which is not supported.

Actually its more to do with this:
Format : Digital Video

Not necessarily, here’s “2” examples of the “Format ” displaying “A Compatible Format ”
Format :xvid

Format :MPEG-4 Visual

In both cases, it’s the Format profile : OpenDML which is the cause of in-compatibility with WD Players.
Joey, though that might be true, it’s moot.
The WD won’t play DV encoded video regardless of what container it’s in.
