I have an old 500GB drive that I have used for a few years now. I only use the drive when I need to access it, meaning it is usually off. It has been working fine until about two weeks ago. Now when I try to access it i get a pop up that says “You need to format the disk in drive O: before you can use it” Just wondering if anyone knows a fix, or is all my data lost? Unfortunately, you will need to format the drive in order to make it operational again. This issue normally happens due a corrupt file store in the drive.
If the drive shows in Disk Management then it may just be corrupt. TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk might fix partition problem.
