I use the My Book Essential exclusively for my itunes library. After a shut down or hibernation or sleep, once I restart my computer I have to physically unplug then plug in the power connection in order to both see the drive on the computer and play music file in itunes. Do I just have a settings issue? I found a knowledge base related solution which suggested changing my computer to a never sleep power setting? I would rather not do that. I would prefer that the drive’s sleep / hibernate and shut down funtions operate in concert with my computer.
I’m not abvove going out and buying another drive so is it a WD **bleep** product issue or just this particular model? I had a Maxtor portable drive years ago and if gave me problems too, prompting me to give WD a try.
Most USB WD drives don’t let you change the wake-up behavior, they do allow you to change when they are going to sleep though.
However, it’s still up to your computer to supply enough power as to awaken the device. I have 2 computers at home and one of them is unable to awaken any of my WD and Seagate drives.
