Advice Requested - which upgrade option to choose

Currently an OS3 Cloud user and ready to purchase a device that is OS5 compatible. I am confused as to which devices are OS5 compatible. It seems that the lower TB of EX2 Ultra are not OS5? I’ve been browsing the product forums here and reading conflicting information.

I’m looking to move away from the My Cloud/My Cloud Home line and more looking into the EX2 Ultra, PR2100 and EX4100 but unsure if the TB size impacts OS5 compatibility. Example - is the EX2 Ultra 4TB OS5 compatible or is it only the 16TB and above?

The list of Affected Devices page is confusing - My Cloud OS3 End of Service | Western Digital. It lists upgrade options but at the same time also lists the same upgrade option as an Affected Device. That’s why it seems to appear that the amount of TB also affects whether it’s OS5 compatible or not.

Any clarity on this would be greatly appreciated!

It is the EX2 that is not OS/5 compatible.

All “EX2 Ultra” units are compatible; regardless of the drives that are in it*
I have run it on an 8 TB EX2 Ultra.

Stay far, far away from anything in the “Home” line. Trust me

Honestly. . .if you are looking to upgrade. . . .I would look at options from WD competitors at this point. They cost a bit more. . .but the hardware is both newer and better; as is the software. Consider the upgrade coupon a Red Herring that is distracting you from what you should buy.

*assuming you are using drives that are appropriate; basically any NAS rated drive up 14TB each. I recommend WD Red Plus or Red Pro (I would avoid Plain Red). Seagate Iron Wolf drives are fine as well
