Additonal Internet media servers

I just bought a WD TV Live and was surprised to find that I could only connect to Utube and flick. It appears to me that I should be able to connect to others but could find no way to do that. I can of course easily connect to my local systems but was not able to  figure a way to connect to others on the Internet perhaps there is a way that I did not discover.

Has anyone addressed this issue?

I looked around the forum and did not see anything referring to this subject but I coudl have missed it.

Anyone?

At present you can only connect to:

youtube

Flickr

Live365

Pandora (USA only)

If you want to connect to any internet services you will need to run some sort of server on your PC.

There is a chance that more services will be added to the WDTV Live at a later date (via firmware update)

Would t hat be something like Tversity? As you probably can see I am a newbie at this device and it’s operation. I bought it mainly to stream videos from my computer to my TV in another part of the house and it seems to do that well but than thought perhaps I could use it to watch Internet movies from places like Fancast. Not been able to do that yet. I installed Tversity and added Fancast to the mix but have not been able to connect to it yet.

Thanks for you input.

I think a number of people use this.

Its not free but there is a 2 week trial.

If you have any problems there are people on this board who use it and will be able to help.

Hi,

If it helps, I’m using Medialink…  Works well with the WDTV Live. $20.00

Hope that helps some body.

Cheers.

Thanks for the input. I installed Playon and it works well and is probably worth the price but I have one question: Is there a way to add personal sites to that program? I am a big user of Fancast and I would like to add that and a couple ofthers to the mix. Do you or anyone else know how that is done?

Thanks for your help

If you look at the link below you will see that a plugin was requested but it seems not to have happened.

Plugins extend the list of shows that you can access with Playon

It also appears that if you are in the states then Hulu is the main resource for the shows on Fancast.

Okay thanks for your answer. I do get Hulu and it seems very complex so probably anything I am looking for will be on Hulu.

Thanks for your input.

Okay thanks to everyone’s help I have it figured out. Using the Playon server I can get about anything I want if I can fine a plugin.

Also there is information on the plugin site for writing my own plugins. I have had programming experience so I can probably manage that at some point but with the existing plugins it will probably be awhile before I get that motivated. Like one said if I have Hulu I don’t need Fancast, etc.

Great system I am really enjoying it…

Thanks everyone…
