Additional information on the metadata file

I have a WDTV Live generation 3 player and I am very happy with the performance, except that it has become old.

I have a good collection of movies some with stereo, some with 5.1 channels on audio and some DVDRips, HDRips, BDRips, 720p and 1080p files on video specs. I also tend to download available english subtitles for all the movies in my collection.

My problem is that none of the information I have mentioned above is given in the metadata downloaded from themoviedb site. None of this information is shown in the gallery view. Even the file size is not mentioned.

I have used the MediaInfo program which reads this information from the movie files and display in various formats.

Is there anyway to include the above mentioned information for video, audio and subtitle information in the gallery view. I know I can do this manually for a few files but with large number of files, this becomes a pain.

I am also looking for a new player with similar gallery interface and to pull the information about the movie and also read the actual video file for the specific information on audio and video, subtitle and other media specific information and display them on the gallery interface.

I am ready to buy any new player which has the above mentioned features.

Buy a device that supports ‘open source’ Kodi (XBMC) and you will have all those features +more

eg. “Confluence” skin on Kodi(XBMC) … list view and gallery view (all info is automatically generated)

i bought a Raspberry Pi 2  a few months ago ( cheapest  Kodi (XBMC) option @ $40)

… all my wdtv devices are gathering dust now

Thanks for the information. Let me explore this…

Hi JoeySmyth,

Could you please provide here more additional infos on your set-up with the raspberry device (may be a link to the device you bought, which OS did you install, how is it connect to your network, etc etc …)

and also do you use a remote control with this device ?

Thanks,

GS

Yes, i use my Tv Remote Control … it controls the Rpi2 via HDMI CEC

I can also use my smartphone to control it using apps… (Yatse creates a nice database on my phone/tablet as well for browsing) … see pic below

Hi Joey Smith.

I refer to this post http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-TV-Media-Player/Wd-Tv-Live-6Tb-External-Hard-Drive/td-p/784093/page/2

For some reason it will not let me reply on that thread? Perhaps you can fix? I don’t know, however I wanted to inform the community that I have upgraded to a 6TB WD My Book and I have encryption on with password. It works fine with my WD TV Live SMP (3rd Gen) and the only quirk is that to get it to recognize and unlock the drive I need to ensure I plug in the USB after the WD is turned on, but this is only necessary after power failure and needind to re-input the password. So long story short yes the WD TV Live SMP does work with the WD 6TB My Book.

Why I cannot post this on that thread I do not know? Reply button is greyed out.

Sorry, i can’t fix it … but i have notified the Moderators to see what they can do

EDIT: The thread is now unlocked and ready for posting
