I recently backed up my files to a WD My Passport 4TB using Acronis True Image for WD. The back up was easy. I can view my files but there is no preview so I have to click and open each individual file. As a photographer, I have thousands of pictures so this not practical. WD said it was because Acronis compresses the files and in the WD version of Acronis is there is no way to turn compression off. . This is a serious limitation and a step backwards from their old softwareI would have to upgrade to a paid version of Acronis. WD used to use Smartware software and previewing was no problem… This is very impractical AND MAKES NO SENSE TO ME I was going to buy the My Cloud EX2 ULTRA BUT WD says it uses the same software… i have been a lifetime WD user but now I will be forced to go another company. anyone else having this problem? have you found a work around?
And…Acronis for WD doesn’t do incremental or differential backup. What’s up with that?
The only benefit I can see to this package is the malware prevention functionality for the NAS (MyCloud first edition).
Smartware still works well for me even though abandoned by the company. I have a hugely upgraded Windows PC and Smartware still functions, no glitches.
