Accessing Files After Upgrading MyBook Duo Hard Drive

Hello Everyone! I have an older Western Digital MyBook Duo unit; it’s about 10 years old, and it’s still operational. The drive was hooked up to my computer and being used for backing up files. It was running in RAID 1.

Since the drives were approaching the 10 year old mark, I decided to buy new WD RED drives and replace the old ones, which I did successfully. However, I didn’t copy the files off the old drives / array, because my thinking was, if it’s RAID 1, I can just plug one of the drives into my computer with an adapter and pull the files off. Well, that was a mistake. I plugged one of the drives into, and even initialized the drive in Windows, but still can’t access the files.

Before I take further action, I wanted to check with the community to see how to proceed on retrieving my files off the old drives. Do I just put the old drives back in the MyDuo enclosure, pull them off, and be done with it?

Thank you.
