Accessing Backed Up Data from Old Hardrive on Mobile Devices

I have been helping a friend backup his data from two old internal hard drives. I have been using a WD MyBookLive for years and am very pleased with it.

I couldn’t find these anywhere so suggested he buy a 2TB My Cloud device.

I copied all the data he wanted recovering from the old hard drives to the My Cloud using an old laptop of mine and everything is accessible from his PC.

The problem is that he and his wife want to access the data via their smart phone and tablet.

All their data is syncing (photos, music etc) from their devices, but the 100mb of photos and music I copied onto the Public drive won’t show up.

Is there a simple way for me to either copy all that data over so it is accessible from the app since it seems that Mycloud.com and the Public folder are two different things?

I really hate mobile devices because they are so basic and limited but I’ve gotten this far so would like to get this issue fixed.

I’ve been through several support pages and also used Google to find the same problem but haven’t had any luck, so have created an account here. If this was already answered in another thread I apologize for the duplicate.

Hello,

Content added to the Windows Samba Public Share cannot be accessed using the Mobile App.
Mobile app can only access content located in the User Private Mounted Network Drive via WD Discovery

Hi, thank you for the prompt reply.

OK, so that confirms what I already knew, but the question is how do I now make the content on the “Windows Samba Public Share” available to access from the mobile devices? There must be a simple way to copy it across?

We have 2TB to play with so duplicating the content isn’t a problem. I just need to know how to do it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Install WD Discovery http://downloads.wdc.com/wdapp/WD_Discovery_2_1_378.zip
  2. Sign In using your MyCloud.com email address and password
  3. Copy the data from the Public Share to the My Cloud Home User Mounted Network Drive (data transfer will be slow)

That’s superb, thank you ever so much. I will go and get this done for them on Monday.

Have a good weekend.
