As soon as I reboot my computer, MyBook essential is no longer recognized. I’ve tried unplugging and plugging back in both when the computer is off and on. I have to continually delete MyBook Essential software and redownload it. This time I have spent half the day trying to re download the software. (1) Can’t find any tab for signing in. After a big round about farce, I finally got to here. (2) I find the software download page and when I click on the download, it reroutes me to the knowledge base. It would seem to me that Westen Digital could do a better job with it’s site by having a sign in icon on the home page and fix whatever is wrong with the software that it always says Unknown USB drive. In addition there is no link from the forum to get back to WD Home. Worst designed site in my opinion.
It seems that you may be dealing with multiple issues. Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.
