AAC decoding removal?

Hi All,

With a number of companies now removing AAC audio playback on there players are WD also consider removing this Dolby technology from their WD range, or has the license been paid for use of the technology Patent?

Thanks.

I cannot find out anything about aac being licenced by Dolby for decoding. Can you link to a story or the players that are having aac playback removed.

Anyway if you read the manual it says
Manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby” and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. Confidential unpublished work. © 1995-2005 Dolby Laboratories. All rights reserved. © 2006-2007 Dolby Laboratories. All rights reserved

So I guess this would cover aac.

AAC isn’t a Dolby technology.  AC3 is.  And yes, many app developers are removing AC3 support from products because they aren’t licensed to use it.  WD’s products are licensed, as RichUK shows.
