How do I stop the drive from making a thumping sound every 5 seconds. This even happens with the drive sitting on the workbench with no sata cable connected. Do I need to RMA it, again?

I would suggest you to check the SATA port connections as due to improper power supply the internal drive makes noise.
Absolkutely. That’s a first step in any troubleshooting. Furthermore a different drive connected to the same system with the same cables doesn’t exhibit the thumping noise.
So I’m pretty sure cables and connections can be ruled out unless there is a specialized specific cable needed for this specific drive…?? Which of course doesn’t make sense.
