5 YR Old My Book Live Should I replace

I have a 5 yr old 3TB My Book Live, how long do they last?? Should I think about upgrading to a 3TB Cloud??

Serial Number is WCAWZ1439506.

I have a 2GB MyBookLive that is at least 4 years old, possibly 5, and have no trouble with it. A couple years ago I needed more NAS storage and bought a 3GB MyCloud. I was not impressed and finally bought a 3GB MyBookLive. I’ve been very satisfied with both MBLs.

My reasons for disliking the MyCloud are very specific and unlikely to apply to many people. The FTP server in the Gen2 MyCloud will not communicate with the backup software I run on my computers - Acronis True Image. (ATI users report that the Gen1 MyCloud FTP server has no such problem.) I also think the MBL GUI looks and feels more professional than the MC GUI, but I wouldn’t care if it weren’t for the FTP problem.

Thanks for your reply. Does WD still support the MBL product line. I notice that it is not on their product listing.

Maybe not. I know they were pushing MyCloud as and “upgrade”. That’s bad news in my book.

Hello DALE_STAMWITZ,

My Book live is a legacy and EOL product. However, if you face any issue using the My Book product in future you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support for assistance.

Also, Upgrading to My Cloud is certainly a good option if you are looking for new NAS device and features.
