Just got a new 4TB My Book today and shrunk the main partion by 1TB to make a new partion using windows disk managment. After shrinking the primary partition by the amount i wanted to create the new partion I was unable to select “New Simple Volume” or any of the other options through right clicking. I was able to shrink the primary partion again and make a new simple volume and delete it, but not the first atempted volume. I am left with 1TB of unallocated space that I can not shrink, change or delete.
Update:
ran a disk scan with HD Tune PRO and found a large number of errors in the section that is unallocated, but the software does not offer any way to fix them. I also ran error checking in the native windows tools and found nothing. If this was a small loss of space I would forget about it, but this is 1TB of unusable space. Only thing left I can think to do is try and reformate the drive, but windows only shows the drive is 3TB so I think that it will only format 3tb leaving the 1TB unallocated.
